ITINERARY
Download PDFLeaving the airport, we transverse the scenic Greek countryside. Stop at the Thermopylae, a narrow pass flanked by mountains and sea strategically important in ancient times. Today, this historical landmark features a monument commemorating the legendary Battle of Thermopylae.
The landscape transforms into a spectacle of towering rock formations crowned by the ancient monasteries of Meteora. These gravity-defying structures, perched atop sheer cliffs, offer a glimpse into centuries-old monastic life and panoramic views.
The name Meteora translates to ‘suspended in the air or ‘in heavens’ and perfectly encapsulate the breathtaking sights these monolithic pillars offer.
The monasteries stand as testaments to human resilience and spiritual dedication. Initially, the monasteries were accessible only by means of precarious rope ladders or baskets lifted by pulleys, providing safety from invaders and solitude for deep contemplation. (Note: Shoulders and knees must not be exposed when visiting monasteries)
Drive to Delphi, the navel of the Earth and one of Greece’s most important and interesting archaeological sites.
Located on top of a hill overlooking a valley of olive groves, Delphi was a famous oracle in antiquity. As Delphi was a sanctuary Apollo, all the monuments are connected to him and the oracle.
Visit the Archaeological Museum which hosts findings from the site. The most famous exhibits are the Charioteer and the Sphinx. From the archaeological site, admire The Balkans’ largest olive grove. The oldest tree was planted here 2500 years ago.
Drive to the airport in Athens for our flight to Mykonos, one of the most popular Greek Island in the Cyclades group renowned for its stunning beaches, vibrant nightlife and charming architecture.
Visti Ano Mera, a charming village in the center of the island known for its tranquil atmosphere and traditional Greek lifestyle. Visit the Panagia Tourliani Monastery to admire the intricate wood-carved iconostasis. The town square is surrounded by tavernas, cafes and shops.
Walk through the labyrinth that is old town Chora. Explore narrow streets lined with traditional shops, restaurants, chic boutiques, and art galleries.
Make a stop at the most photographed church, Panagia Paraportiani, made up of 5 small churches. A short walk away is the iconic windmills of Mykonos and ‘Little Venice’ where houses perch precariously on the edge of the sea.
Catch a ferry to Santorini where iconic image of whitewashed buildings perched on cliffs against the backdrop of the azure Aegean Sea and sky creates an enchanting picture.
Enjoy a walking tour of Fira which stands on the edge of a 260-meter cliff. Traditional architecture, labyrinth narrow streets, shops, restaurants, bars, and a breath-taking view are some elements which represent this beautiful town.
In the evening, visit Oia, located along the rim of the caldera, is widely known as the best spot to view the sunset.
Enjoy a leisurely drive around Santorini’s dramatic landscapes and see the island’s diversity unfold. head for Kamari famous for its stunning Black Beach contrasting against the Aegean’s cobalt waters.
For contrast, visit the Red Beach to see distinctive red-hued cliffs and crimson sands. The colouring comes from iron-rich volcanic minerals in the rocks and sands.
Continue to Pyrgos, a treasure trove of history. This traditional village stands as Santorini’s best-preserved medieval settlement boasting labyrinthine alleyways, picturesque Cycladic architecture and panoramic vistas from its hilltop perch.
Visit Akrotiri, an archeological site renowned for its fascinating Minoan ruins. This remarkably preserved site offers a glimpse into an advanced Bronze Age civilisation that thrived before the volcanic eruption that shaped Santorini.
Visit the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Olympic Games of modern times were held in 1896. Drive around Athens to view the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Hadrian’s Arch, the Parliament, Memorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, the National Library and Constitution Square (Syntagma).
Visit the Acropolis and her architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: The Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and finally “the harmony between material and spirit”, the monument that “puts order in the mind” - The Parthenon.
Food culture in Athens revolves around the central market, the Varvakios Agora. Nut vendors vie with butchers and fishmongers in a heady, excited atmosphere for the attention of customers. Honey, cheese, and pastry shops lined the perimeter of the market. Enjoy an immersive experience of Greek food and eating.
