Spring (March to May)

Daytime temperatures can range from 10°C to 20°C.

Summer (June to August)

The higher regions experience cool summers with daytime temperatures around 10°C to 15°C.

Autumn (September to November)

Temperatures begin to drop, with daytime highs around 5°C to 10°C.

Winter (December to February)

Winters are very cold, with daytime temperatures often below freezing and nighttime temperatures falling well below freezing, even as low as -20°C or lower.

Day 1.

  • Arrive at Paro International Airport, where your Bhutanese journey begins.
  • Enjoy a relaxing afternoon tea in Paro town, immersing yourself in the local culture and cuisine. Set off on a one-hour drive to Thimphu, stopping en route at the historic Tachogang Lhakhang. This ancient temple is dedicated to the great yogi, Thangtong Gyalpo, also known as ‘The Iron Bridge Builder.’
  • Marvel at the engineering prowess of the Iron Suspension Bridge and witness the confluence of the Thimphu and Paro rivers. In the evening, take a leisurely stroll through Thimphu’s town and market areas.

Day 2.

  • Start your day at Kuensel Phodrang, also known as Buddha Point, home to a towering 51.5-meter statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, offering panoramic views of Thimphu valley.
  • Embark on a 2-3 hour hike from Buddha Point to Changangkha. Follow this with a short, scenic 20-minute hike to Wangdue Tze Dzong.
  • Visit the bustling Centenary Farmers Market and Craft Bazaar, a single line of shops selling traditional Bhutanese arts and crafts.

Day 3.

  • Drive from Thimphu to Punakha for 2 hours.
  • Your adventure leads you to Dochula Pass, an elevated point situated at 3,150 meters above sea level. On days of clear weather, you’ll be treated to an awe-inspiring vista of the snowcapped Himalayas. This panoramic view stands as a testament to the grandeur of nature’s beauty and the harmonious coexistence of the mountains and the sky.
  • Among the intriguing features of Dochula Pass are the 108 chortens or stupas that grace the landscape. These sacred structures hold deep cultural and spiritual significance in Bhutanese tradition. Their presence adds a touch of tranquility to the surroundings, reminding visitors of the country’s spiritual heritage.
