Day 2.

  • Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse – is a historic landmark located in Hakodate. This iconic red brick building is a cultural hub, offering a unique shopping and dining experience. The warehouse showcases a variety of shops, boutiques, and restaurants, where visitors can explore local products, handicrafts, and delicious cuisine.
  • Hakodate Hachimangu – Once at the top of the 134-step stone staircase extending from the entrance, visitors are greeted by the traditional architecture of the shrine and Mount Hakodate, with its unique seasonal flair.

  • Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden (Hot-Tubbing Monkeys) – In winter, the pool in the breeding ground is filled with hot spring water. You can see the monkeys soaking themselves in the hot water happily. That would take a lovely picture, especially on a snowy day.

  • Fort Goryokaku – Is a massive, star-shaped, Western-style citadel, which was built in the last years of the Edo Period (1603-1868) for the defense of Hakodate against the imperialist threat posed by the Western powers.

  • Mt Hakodate (Ropeway) – Is a 334-meter high, wooded mountain at the southern end of the peninsula on which much of central Hakodate is located. On clear days and nights, in particular, the views from the mountain are spectacular and included among Japan’s three best night views alongside the views from Nagasaki’s Mount Inasa and Kobe’s Mount Rokko.
