Day 2.

  • Enjoy an afternoon Jeep Safari of Wilpattu National Park. Wilpattu National Park is one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful national parks. It was not accessible during Sri Lanka’s civil unrest of 30 years which has resulted in its terrain remaining protected and pristine. Wilpattu, is the only other national park in the island in addition to Yala National Park which can boast of frequent leopard sightings. As the park is very large and not yet frequented by large numbers of visitors, here, you are likely to have the privilege of having a private audience with the elusive Sri Lanka leopard.

Day 3.

  • Head to Ritigala for a hike to explore the ancient hermitage. Walk through the forest and ancient monastary accompanied by a Buddhist Monk, listening to his stories will help visualize what the monastary would have been like when it was alive with activity.

  • Visit Minneriya National Park to experience the amazing ‘Elephant Gathering’ which takes place from May to September. Each year, during these months, with the onset of the dry season, most of the lakes in the region do go dry. The mighty Minneriya Lake too recedes. In its wake it reveals a lush green grassland which attracts multiple herds of wild elephants. Each evening allows the opportunity to see 200 – 300 elephants grazing by the lake. Large hungry bird flocks coexist peacefully with the elephants as they share the waterhole.
